Betty Christine "Chris" Harrell

ASHEVILLE Betty Christine Chris Slagle Harrell, 82, went to be with her Lord Friday June 22, 2007 at the St. Joseph Campus of Mission Hospitals. She was a lifelong resident of Buncombe County and the daughter of the late Harry Lee Slagle and Zora Adeline Williams Slagle. Mrs. Harrell was the former wife of J.L. Harrell who died in 1987 and was also preceded in death by her son, Harry Lee Harrell. She retired in 1986 following 41 years of service with the National Climatic Center, was a member of Grassy Branch Baptist Church, formerly active with the Boy Scouts of America Troup # 53 as a Scout Leader and former member of the Foster Grandparents Program. Surviving are her daughters, Joan Wheeler of Swannanoa and Mary Jean Curtis of Waynesville; grandsons, Seth and Jarod Wheeler; sister, Dorothy S. Thompson of Cayce, SC; brother, Richard Thomas Slagle of Swannanoa and a niece and two nephews. Funeral services will be held 7 p.m. Monday at Grassy Branch Baptist Church with the Rev. Ken Sausedo officiating. The family will receive friends following services at the church. Graveside services will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday at Skyview Memorial Park.
