Asheville Betty Clarice Bauman Orr, 91, went to be with her Lord on Wednesday, July 1, 2015 at the Laurels of Green Tree Ridge. Mrs. Orr was born in Asheville, North Carolina, on September 28, 1923, to the late Fred and Luda Moseley Bauman. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 36 years, James Dillard Orr Jr. (J.D.); two brothers, Fred Bauman Jr. and Frank Bauman: one sister, Anna Lee Bauman Williams, and two grandsons, David Orr and Kevin Kagel. She is survived by her children, Carol Orr Sutton (Jerry), Diane Orr Plym (George), June Orr Kagel (Joe), Jean Orr Cogburn, and John David Orr (Terri). In addition, Mrs. Orr is survived by her grandchildren; Leesa Brandon (Byron), Bryan Sutton (Lori), Laura Erickson (Eric), Allison Webb (Jake), Seth Orr (Lauren), Jeanete, Stephen, and Jacob Orr and her great-grandchildren; Maggie and Lily Sutton, Elizabeth and Anna Erickson, Bailee Brandon, Silas and Eli Webb, Essynce and Saynt Orr, and Caiden and Sydni Orr; a brother, James Ray Bauman (Dottie), and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Orr graduated from Lee H. Edwards High School in 1941 and was then employed for several years at the Postal Accounts Division of the United States General Accounting Office which had been relocated from Washington, DC, to Asheville during World War II for security purposes. After a number of years as a stay-at-home mom, she was then employed for ten years as secretary at Westwood Baptist Church where she was an active, long-time member until she was unable to attend. For several years, she and her husband were members at Bent Creek Baptist Church. After nine years as secretary at the Buncombe Baptist Association, she retired in 1991. Betty enjoyed her family, her church, playing with her cat, reading, sewing, and traveling. She also enjoyed living in the mountains of Western North Carolina. A service of thanksgiving for her life will be held on Sunday, July 5, 2015 at 3:00 PM in the Chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with the Rev. Gayle Brown officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at the home of Carol Sutton: 36 Cats Whisker Court in Candler.
