Benjamin Dixon Edwards, Sr.

Fairview – Benjamin Dixon Edwards, Sr., 80, passed away Monday, February 22, 2021 at his home, having come full circle on property that has been in his family for several generations. A native of Buncombe County, Mr. Edwards had resided in Wilmington for 15 years before returning to his home place in Fairview in 1979. He worked as an electrician, and was a member of Covenant Community UMC. Mr. Edwards was the Past Master of Mt. Herman Lodge #118 AF&AM, as well as a Past Worthy Patron of the Biltmore Chapter #38 Order of the Eastern Star. He had a love for fishing, and was a skilled woodworker, making canes and walking sticks for family, friends, and anyone who wanted one. Mr. Edwards was the son of the late William Burton Edwards, Sr. and Anna Lee Price Edwards. He was also preceded in death by two brothers: William B. Edwards and Eugene Lee Edwards; and two sisters: MaryAnn Earwood and Frances Buckner. Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Betty Davis Edwards; children: Benjamin D. Edwards, Jr. (Terri), Russell E. Edwards, Sr. (Teresa), Pamela J. Edwards, and William Glen Edwards (Kim); eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brothers: David Edwards and Bobby Edwards, both of Florida; sisters: Elizabeth Gibson of Burnsville, and Laura Foust of Baltimore, MD; and several nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held at 1:00 PM Friday, April 2, 2021 in the Chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home, with the Rev. Tim Burnette officiating. Masonic Funeral Rites will be conducted by the Mt. Herman Lodge #118 AF&AM. A Time of Gathering for friends and family will be held from 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM Friday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Shriner’s Hospital for Children – Greenville, 950 W. Faris Road, Greenville, SC 29605, to the Masonic Home for Children, 600 College Street, Oxford, NC 27565, or to the charity of one’s choice.
