Beatrice Freeman Guthrie

March 6, 1933 — January 4, 2023

West Asheville – Catherine Beatrice Freeman Guthrie, 89, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 4, 2023 at Mission Hospital.


A lifelong resident and native of Buncombe County, she was a Cafeteria Manager for the Asheville City Schools.


Mrs. Guthrie was the daughter of the late Theodore Rosevelt Freeman and Belva Gosnell Freeman and wife of Jimmy Bascombe “Pokey” Guthrie who died January 2, 2001.


Surviving are her sons, J.B. Guthrie and Gerald Guthrie both of Asheville and Ricky Guthrie (Janet) of Weaverville and daughter, Becky Hunter (Alan) of Arden; brother, L.A. Freeman (Ann) of Granite Falls; 9 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; 8 great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.


Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Sunday, January 8, 2023 at First Born Baptist Church, 118 Upper Grove Lane, Weaverville, NC 28787, with Rev. Jerry Jamerson officiating. Burial will follow in Ashelawn Gardens of Memory.


The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 PM Sunday at the church.
