Barbara H. Kemp

Asheville Barbara Ellen Hensley Kemp, 79, of 22 Melody Lane passed away Wednesday April 29, 2009 at the John F. Keever, Jr. Solace Center. A native and resident most of her life of Buncombe County. She was a wonderful seamstress that made all of her and her girls clothing, loved to bake and cook and was a member of the Child Evangelism who promoted their Good News Club with all the neighborhood children to teach Bible stories in flannel graph. She promoted education in her children and at the age of 55 received her G.E.D. She also was an avid bowler and served as a Childrens Camp Counselor. Mrs. Kemp was the daughter of the late Silas Hensley and Mamie Cole Hensley. She was also preceded in death by her grandson Sidney Patton, her two sisters and brother. Surviving are her husband, William H. Kemp with whom they were married for 61 years, of the home; daughters, Susan Kemp McCarson of Candler, Beverly Kemp Kirkley & husband Clinton, Sandra Kemp Lindsey & husband Richard all of Asheville and Cheryl Kemp Letterman of Hendersonville; grandchildren, Amanda Dawn White, Richie Lindsey, Sara Patton McCleary and Ashley Letterman; great grandchildren, Jessica, Jamie, Libby, Destany and Nathan and great-great grandson, Ayden. Funeral services will be held 3:30 P.M. Saturday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with Rev. Charles Chandler officiating. Burial will follow in Pisgah View Memorial Park with Jamie Berry, Clint Kirkley, Micah McCleary, Richie Lindsey, Richard Lindsey and Kevin Kemp serving as pallbearers.
