Barbara A. Hadeen

February 8, 1931 — May 5, 2009

Asheville Barbara Aliene Foster Hadeen, 78, passed away Tuesday May 5, 2009 at the John F. Keever, Jr. Solace Center after a very short and determined fight with cancer. Barbara was born on February 8, 1931 in Loveland, Colorado to the late Roy and Twilo Foster and also preceded in death by her brother Jack. Barbara is survived by her husband Kenneth Hadeen and two children, Mark Hadeen of Council Bluffs, Iowa and Denise Montgomery of Weaverville. She is survived by two sisters, Marjorie Dickie and her husband, Charles of Rocky Ford, Colorado and Doris Raufeisen and her husband, Frank of Middleton, Wisconsin. Barbara graduated from Colorado A&M with dual B.S. Degrees in Occupational Therapy and Home Economics. After completing her 12 month internship in the cities St. Paul, MN, Denver, CO and Los Angeles, CA, she became a Registered Occupational Therapist and worked as an OT in Colorado Springs at a Halfway House and at a Mental Hospital. She met Ken, her husband of 55+ years, the first year of college and married him in 1953 at the United Presbyterian Church in Loveland, Colorado. Barbara was a loving, understanding and supportive wife who took care of her home and children when her husband was on isolated military tours and cheerfully made a new home after each of their moves. These were in Colorado (3 times), California (2 times), Texas (2 times), Kaiserlautern and Ramstein, Germany, Bellvue, Nebraska (2 times), Belleville, Illinois, Rockville, MD and their last move to Asheville. During these moves she became a dedicated volunteer and gained a new passion for fine art and decorative painting and also for gardening. She was very active in a chapter of the National Decorative Painters, in a garden club, the UNCA Botanical Gardens and the Asheville Council of Garden Clubs. For three years, Barbara taught painting classes at the A-B Technical College where she gained many friends. She enjoyed the annual visits with her sisters. A Memorial Service will be held 2 P.M. Friday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home. The family will receive friends immediately following the services at the funeral home. Interment at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make a donation can make it to: John F.
