Azile Whisnant Boone

January 21, 1910 — June 27, 2002

Asheville - Azile Whisnant Boone, 92, died Thursday June 27, 2002 following an extended battle with cancer. A native of Asheville, she was a daughter of the late Asbury and Ella Austin Whisnant. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Boyce Carlyle Boone, who died in 1977; sister, Bertha Ball; brother, John Whisnant and son-in-law, Ken Johnson. Azile was a charter member of Calvary Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years and was a devoted Christian who never passed up a chance to witness for the Lord. Surviving are her daughters, Jean B. Johnson of Weaverville, Evelyn C. Boone of Asheville and Sarah B. McGinnis and husband, Bill of Black Mountain; grandchildren, Tammy McGinnis Gilbert and husband, John of Weaverville, Tim McGinnis of Candler and Vikki Gerrald and husband, Michael of Savannah, GA. Seven beloved nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday in the Chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. Buddy Corbin officiating. Burial will be at Mars Hill Cemetery. Her family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.
