Autense "Shorty" Johnson

November 11, 1916 — February 18, 2017

Mars Hills Marjorie Autense Shorty McEntyre Johnson, 100, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 18, 2017 at the John F. Keever, Jr. Solace Center. A native of Polk County, she had resided in Buncombe County most of her life prior to moving to Madison County in 2009. She was formerly employed with Hot Shot Caf, Kellwood Mfg and Crest Variety Store. She was a member of Biltmore Baptist Church and had attended Mars Hill Baptist Church. Mrs. Johnson was the daughter of the late Walter McEntyre and Eva Ellen Steadman McEntyre and wife of David Leonard Johnson who died May 26, 1980. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Mary Johnson; sons, James A. Johnson and Dannie W. Johnson; 5 brothers; 3 sisters and 2 grandsons, Tim and Scott Johnson. Surviving are her daughters, Kaye Mathews (Samuel) of Asheville and Deborah Balmes (William) of Mars Hill; 11 grandchildren; 2 step grandsons; numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren and special friend & neighbor, Will Pressley. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Sunday, February 26, 2017 in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with Rev. Tommy Justus officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 PM Sunday at the funeral home.
