Candler Annice June Bates, 64, passed away Saturday, August 12, 2017 at the St. Joseph Campus of Mission Hospitals. A lifelong resident of Buncombe County, she was an LPN for several local nursing homes and was a member of Waynesville SDA Church Miss Bates was a daughter of the late George Washington Bates, Jr. and Helen Marie Melton Bates. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Allen Bates and sister, Sharon Zalabak. Surviving are her sisters, Yvonne Fowler and husband Murel of Apex, NC and twin sister, Janice Bates of the home; sister-in-law, Cristina Bates; brother-in-law, W.D. Zalabak; aunts, Eileen Conner and Elaine Metcalf (Sam); numerous nieces and nephews including, Angela Johnson (Chris), Paul Fowler (Dena), Stephanie Guenin (Remy), David Zalabak, Jasmine Briggs (Keith), George Bates (Stephanie), Yevette Ray (Mark) and Michael Bates (Christina) and numerous cousins. Memorial graveside services will be held at 3 PM Saturday, August 19, 2017 at Oak Hill UMC Cemetery with Pastor Haskell Williams, George Bates (nephew) and Angela Johnson (niece) officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2:30 Saturday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home, prior to the services. A special thanks to all the Emergency First Responders, Emergency Department Personnel at Mission Hospital, and the staff of Coli Critical Care Unit of St. Joseph Campus for their outstanding care and their love and support shown to our family during this difficult time.
