Anna Lou Gass

Asheville - Anna Lou Owen Gass, 82, of 20 Ridge Road died Sunday June 22, 2003 at her home following a period of declining health. A native of Jackson County, she had resided in Buncombe County most of her life and was a member of Pisgah View Pentecostal Church. She was a daughter of the late Elbert Clarence and Ethel Naomi Woodrang Owen and the wife of the late James Horace Gass who died in 1999. She was also preceded in death by daughter, Naomi Hall; son, Daniel Jerome Gass; brother, Lewis Owen and great grandson, Tyler Meadows. Surviving are her sons, Buddy Gass, Harrell Gass and Roy Gass all of Asheville, Jerry Gass of Easley, S.C., and J.C. Gass of Linwood, N.C.; daughters, Kate Sherlin and Mary Maxwell both of Asheville and Jennie Price of Black Mountain; sisters, Winfred Brookshire of Brevard, Wilma Breedlove of Charlotte, Margie Lusk of Asheville, Genevieve Bradley of Falls Church, Va., Elloyse Stanberry of Alaska and Bertha Warren of Florida; brother, Tom Owen of Asheville; 16 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and 1 great great granddaughter and 2 very special people, Gee and Brenda Rathbone. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home with the Revs. Russell Gillespie and Dwight Meadows officiating. Burial will be in Green Hills Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9:00 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home, at other times the family will be at the residence.
