Asheville - Alvin Weaver Turner, 86, of 31 Ridgeway Drive, died Friday January 10, 2003 at Memorial Mission Hospital following a period of declining health. A native of Haywood County. He had resided in Buncombe County most of his life. He retired from American Enka Corp. following 45 years of service and was a member of Malvern Hills Presbyterian Church. He was a son of the late John and Etta Davis Turner and was also preceded in death by his sister and four brothers. Surviving are his wife of 63 years, Virginia Sparks Turner of the home; son, James W. Turner and wife, Pamela Mills Turner of Asheville; grandchildren, Brian Mills Turner and wife, Katina of New York City, NY, Robin Turner Oswald and husband, John of Asheville and twin great grandsons, Carson and Harrison Oswald of Asheville; brothers, Alden Turner of Hendersonville and Bill Turner of Canton; several nieces and nephews including a special niece, Mary Sparks and her daughters, Sidney and Virginia all of Asheville. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Monday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with the Rev. Douglas Tilley officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 until 8 PM Sunday at the funeral home.
