Alta Gillespie "Bugs" Pittman

Asheville - Alta Gillespie "Bugs" Pittman, 79, went home to be with her Lord, Thursday, August 26, 2010. She died at the home of her son, Lawrence, in Maryville, MI after a long battle with Parkinson's disease. Born May 31, 1931 in Grassy Creek, NC, she was a daughter of the late Jess Gillespie and Tennie Buchanan Gillespie and wife of the late Lawrence "Junior" Pittman who died July 26, 2002. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Daphne Forbis and brother Arthur M. Gillespie. Alta loved her family. She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church and loved her church family. Alta always had a smile, a warm meal prepared and time to listen to her loved ones. Survivors include daughter, Ethel L. Pittman of Asheville; four sons, Charles R. Gillespie and wife Mary Gillespie of Salisbury, Melvin C. Pitmann, Lawrence Pittman, Jr and wife Patricia Pittman and Michael D. Pittman all of Maryville, MI; seven grandchildren, Amanda Howard, Ellery Dion Pittman, Travis Gillespie, Stacy West, Tracy Leone, Stephanie Smith and Daisey Pittman and eleven great grandchildren. The memorial service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday at Trinity Baptist Church. Final resting place will be Liberty Hill Baptist Church Cemetery, Spruce Pine, NC.
