Alma Mae Coffey

December 14, 1918 — January 25, 2002

Swannanoa - Alma Mae Harper Coffey, 83, of 204 Eastwood Avenue - Grovemont died Friday January 25, 2002 at the Mtn. Area Hospice Solace Center following a period of declining health. A lifelong resident of Buncombe County, she retired from the Asheville City Schools in 1980 as a dietician after 20 years of service. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church where she was a member of the TEL Sunday School Class and the WMU. She was the daughter of the late William McFarland and Martha Jane Fore Harper and the wife of the late Clarence Edward Coffey. Surviving are her daughter, Elizabeth C. Taylor of Swannanoa; Grandsons, Jeffrey Lawrence Gray and wife Debra of Palm Harbor, Fl. and Jonathan Edward Gray and wife Debra of Swannanoa; great grandchildren, Lauren Heather Gray, Bradley Paul Gray and Kerensa Ava Bero; several nieces and nephews including Sondra McCrary and Myra Harper. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. Buddy Corbin, Rev. Frank Cantrell and Rev. Don Welborn officiating. Burial will be in Ashelawn Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 2:00 P.M. Sunday at the funeral home.
