Alice Margaret Blinderman

Asheville – Alice Margaret Blinderman, 96, passed away on Thursday, January 26, 2023.

Mrs. Blinderman was a Registered Nurse, having served with the VA Hospitals in Miami, Florida and Asheville and after retirement from the VA, she volunteered as a nursing assistant at Mission Hospital for several years.

While Alice was a dedicated registered nurse in her career, she was also devoted to her family and had many talents outside of work. Alice was an excellent cook and baker and was often found whipping up dinner after work while still in her nurse’s uniform. At Christmas she loved baking a wide variety of Christmas cookies and shared them with friends and neighbors. Alice had a passion for sewing and could have been a professional seamstress, but she had too many other interests to only focus on one thing. She made clothes, numerous stuffed animals, along with their outfits, for her daughters, and made quilted wall hangings for the home. Her handmade quilts were of showroom quality, as were her embroidery and crocheted tabletop scarves and linens. Being an avid reader, Alice amassed hundreds of books over the decades and started her own lending library so the women in her small neighborhood could enjoy her collection also. A huge animal lover, Alice always had a dog or cat and was a fervent bird watcher, with many birding books in her collection and binoculars at arm’s length

Alice was truly an extraordinary woman who was quick to help, quick to teach, and quick to laugh. She will be lovingly remembered and sorely missed.

She was a daughter of the late John Raymond Daehler and Gladys Boggs Schultz and wife of Cyril “Walking Man” Blinderman who died in 2010. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Karen Sue Blinderman and sister, June Evelyn Lombardo.

Surviving are her daughter, Lori Anne Blinderman of Asheville and niece, Patricia Minnick.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 AM Saturday, February 4, 2023, in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home. Honors will be provided by the NC Nurses Honor Guard.

The family will receive friends immediately following services at the funeral home.
