Asheville - Aleane Newman Butler, 84, of Givens Estate ended her lifes journey on November 21, 2002 at the Mountain Area Hospice Solace Center. A native of Henderson County, she was the daughter of the late John Walter and Ida Sarepta Orr Newman of Hendersonville and was the devoted wife of 53 years to the late William Leon Butler. Aleane was a lifetime member of the Eastern Star Biltmore Chapter #38 and had worked at Tingles Restaurant in Asheville and later with Ed Y. Sweet Income Tax service in Kannapolis. She was a volunteer with Tax Counciling for the Elderly. She traveled with her husband for over 25 years following his profession as a Boilermaker all along the east coast. During her travels Aleane always planted flowers which would grow and bloom to her delight and enjoyment of her neighbors. They retired to Arden, NC and her yard overflowed with azaleas, snowball bushes and hostas. She enjoyed sharing cuttings of her abundant garden with her family and friends. These family and friends yards continue to grow and bloom as a reminder of her lovingly shared plants. Aleane knitted baby blankets for three generations. These beautiful blankets are being passed onto future generations who will also be wrapped in their loving warmth along with the memory of the woman who made them. Aleanes blue ribbon chocolate was a rich sweet treat for all her friends. She had many more talents, a few of which included drawing, music, and handicrafts. Her life was devoted to caring for her husband and nurturing her family. Aleanes family will miss her and remember the many details of her life that made her such a special and endearing Mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. In addition to her parents and husband, she is also preceded in death by her sister, Lois N. Mason, wife of Fred C. Mason. Surviving are her daughters, Janet Butler-Stephens and husband Robert T. Stephens of Raleigh, NC, and Karen Butler-Sitton and husband Jerry E. Sitton of Asheville; grandsons, Marc T. Emond of Arden, NC and Jerry Sitton, Jr. of Ellijay, GA; sisters, Ruby N.
