Alda V. Evans

Woodfin - Alda Vearl Hollifield Evans, 89, of 33 Reese Street died Saturday, September 3, 2005 at Emerald Ridge Health Care and Rehabilitation Center following a period of declining health. A lifelong resident of Buncombe County. Mrs. Evans retired in 1974 from the Norge Village Laundry & Dry Cleaning Co. She formerly was employed with the Weaverville Laundry and Hadley Corporation and was a member of Longs Chapel Baptist Church. She was a daughter of the late Jake E. Hollifield and Savannah McHone Hollifield and the wife of William Taft Evans, Sr. who died December 2, 2004. She was also preceded in death by her son, Gerald Evans, daughter, Shelby Jean Evans, sisters, Bertha Mae Hollifield and Lola Rice and brothers, Joseph and Charles Hollifield. Surviving are her son, William T. Bill Evans, Jr. and wife, Kathy of Asheville; grandaughters, Deborah Ann Barker and Cynthia Lynn Green both of Candler and Sherri Gwen Blankenship of Waxaw; step grandson, Tranis Clark of Clyde; sister, Carolyn Anderson of Weaverville; 10 great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11 am Wednesday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with the Rev. Rev. Bob Ballard officiating. Entombment will be at Ashelawn Gardens of Memory.
