Asheville - Albert Norris Manning, 74, of 5 Pleasant Hill Drive, died Tuesday, August 13, 2002 at Memorial Mission Hospital following a brief illness. His parents, Frank M. and Era Baker Manning of Prattville, AL and a sister, Juanita Jacks, also of Prattville, preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife, Muriel Manning; two sons, Alan N. Manning and wife, Patricia of Lawrenceville, GA and Michael L. Manning and wife, Sandra of Asheville; four grandchildren, David L. Manning of Beijing, China, Sabrina M. Manning of Starkville MS, Coreen E. Manning of Lawrenceville, GA and Daniel S. Manning of Asheville: four sisters, Ara Carden, Doris Kennington and Merrell Townson all of Prattville, AL and Margaret Avant of Macon, GA. Mr. Manning was a member of Woodland Hills Baptist Church and was an ordained deacon who served faithfully for many years in previous churches before moving to Asheville. A veteran, Mr. Manning served in the U.S. Navy from 1946 to 1949. He was a 1952 graduate of Auburn University and was employed for many years in the poultry industry. The family will receive visitors between 6-8 PM Thursday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home. Services will be held at 1 pm Friday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with Revs. Joe Dillon and Frank Hopkins officiating. A private burial will follow at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain with military rites conducted by the Buncombe County Veterans Council Memorial Team. Pallbearers will be Ted Carden, Daniel Manning, Eric Kennington, Dale Kennington, Bob Townson and Ray Bailey. Honorary pallbearers will be David Manning, Sabrina Manning and the Mens Bible Class at Eastdale Baptist Church of Montgomery, AL. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested the memorials be made to: Mountain Care Adult Day Services, 68-A Sweeten Creek Road, Asheville, NC 28803.
