Zennie Louise Calloway

February 15, 1914 — June 10, 2004

Asheville - Zennie Louise Thomas Calloway, 90, of 824 Swannanoa River Rd. went to be with her Lord Thursday, June 10, 2004 at the Mountain Area Hospice Solace Center following a period of declining health. A native of Madison County. Mrs. Calloway had resided in Buncombe County most of her life and attended Oakley Gospel Tabernacle. She retired in 1979 from St. Josephs Hospital where she worked in the Linen Room and formerly employed with Farnam Mfg. Co. for 27 years. She was a daughter of the late Rev. Woodard Sam Thomas and Matilda King Thomas and the wife of Willie Edward Bill Calloway who died 12-8-1997. She was also preceded in death by her son, Robert Ray Bobby Calloway who died in 1959 and her 3 brothers and 3 sisters. Surviving are her daughters, Gloria Faye Calloway with whom she made her home and Michelle Renee Calloway of Asheville; son, Jerry Allen Calloway and wife, Janie of Asheville; brother, Fred Thomas of Bakersville; grand daughter, Robin Pressley and husband, Shea Knupp of Leicester; great grandchildren, Tyler Wayne Carroll, Ashley Renee Carroll, Tiffany Lashea Watkins and Alex Scott Calloway; several nieces, nephews and a host of friends. Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with the Rev. Ray Woodby officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. Active Pallbearers will be Ronnie Foster, Nick Case, Larry Edwards, Robert Pressley, Shea Knupp and Weldon Taylor. Honorary Pallbearer will be Gary Parham. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Mountain Area Hospice, P.O. Box 25338, Asheville, N.C. 28813.
