Zade Ponder

Leicester - Zade Ernest Ponder, 72, of 10 South Turkey Creek Road, went to be with his Lord Friday, April 22, 2011 at the Memorial Campus of Mission Hospitals. Mr. Ponder was a native of Madison County and had resided in Buncombe County most of his life. He retired in 2001 from the Buncombe County School System where he served as a carpenter, was a member of Union Baptist Church and a US Army Veteran. He was a son of the late Rev. Lloyd Ponder and Este Crowder Ponder and was also preceded in death by his brothers, Glen and Mack Ponder. Surviving are his wife, Louise Cox Ponder with whom they married June 25, 1959; daughters, Sharon Hawkins and husband, Robert and Sheila Burrell and husband, Randy all of Leicester; grandchildren, Alicia Rice and husband, Michael, Amanda Hawkins, Anthony Hawkins (Deliah), Heath Burrell and wife, Brittany and Heather Burrell (Jeffrey); sister, Louise Paulson; brothers, Vernon, Kermit, Ray and Dewayne Ponder; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 2 PM Tuesday, April 26, 2011, in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with the Rev. Junior Hensley and Rev. Jeff Robinson officiating. Burial will be in Union Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive from 6:30 to 8:30 PM Monday at the funeral home.
