Asheville - William Ray Kitchin, 82, went to be with his Lord Wednesday March 7, 2007. A native of Newport News, VA, he had lived in Buncombe County the last 28 years. He joined the U. S. Navy December 8, 1941, one day after the bombing of Pearl Harbor. He was a son of the late Jesse E. and Daisy Pressley Kitchin. Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Helen Roberts Kitchin of the home; daughters, Raylana Kitchin Ward (Randy) of Atlanta, GA and Capri Kitchin Potton (Tom) of Asheville; grandchildren, Tommy, Niki, Heidi and Daniel Potton; sisters, Bessie Lou Wright, Jean Shields, Sarah Swanson (Bobby) and Judy Ward (Jerry) all of Newport News, VA and several nieces and nephews including Myra Joan Collins, Doris Roberts and Juanita Whitaker who helped him in many ways during his illness. Graveside services will be held at 2:30 P.M. Friday at Forest Lawn Memorial Park with the Rev. Jerry Wilson officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to ones favorite charity.
