William L. Smith

ASHEVILLE William Lewis Bill Smith, 90, of 1286 Brevard Road passed away Monday, September 28, 2009 at the Memorial Campus of Mission Hospitals. A native of Belton, SC, he had resided in Asheville since 1937. He retired in 1973 from the Air Weather Service, was of the Presbyterian faith and was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in WWII. Mr. Smith was a son of the late Leonard Lewis Smith and Ella Marie Cox Smith and husband of the late Elizabeth Adelle Jones Smith. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Helen Watson. Surviving are his daughter, Patricia S. Salter & husband James of Asheville; son, David Lewis Smith of the home; granddaughters, Lea S. Faulkner of Candler and Colleen S. McCurry of Wake Forest; great granddaughter, Sydney Adelle Faulkner of Candler; brothers, Fred Harrison Smith of St. Augustine, FL and Ralph Leonard Smith of Spartanburg, SC and special friend, Katherryn Burgess of Swannanoa. Graveside services will be held 2:30 P.M. Thursday at Green Hills Cemetery with Rev. Dr. John T. Tiller officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to ones favorite charity. Anders-Rice Funeral Home is assisting the family.
