William J. "Bill" Meyer

October 9, 1920 — December 22, 2009

NASHVILLE, TN William Jones Meyer, known by his friends and family as Bill was born October 9, 1920 in Keysville, GA and went to be with his Lord on Tuesday, December 22, 2009. He held an undergraduate degree in Pharmacy from the University of Georgia and a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Denver. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII as a Counter Intelligence Officer in the Far East Command, and served in both Korea and Vietnam as a Clinical Psychologist with the U.S. Navys Medical Service Corps. His last tour of duty was at the U.S. Naval Hospital in Philadelphia, PA where he retired in January of 1967 with over 27 years of combined military service. After retiring, he moved to Asheville where he donated his time to the Asheville VA Hospital as a volunteer, contributing 7,252 hours. In June of 2007 he moved to the Nashville, TN area. He was an avid bridge player, loved traveling, classical music, gardening - especially roses, reading, family, friends and cooking. He is divorced and survived by two married sons, Chris and Rick Meyer and their wives, Nancy and Bettye; two grandchildren and three great grandchildren. In addition, he is survived by two brothers, Carlos Meyer and Earl Meyer and one sister, Nell Meyer. Graveside services will be held 11 A.M. Tuesday at Turkey Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends 3:30 to 5 P.M. Monday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home.
