William Fred Wilson

December 15, 1918 — May 23, 2007

Asheville - William Fred Wilson, 88, passed away May 23, 2007. He spent a good part of his childhood at the Black Mountain Orphanage until he moved in with his uncle and aunt, John and Fannie Dayton and their son Glenn and wife Elizabeth (Lib) Dayton. He served in the U.S. Army with the 555 Division during WWII in Hawaii. He worked for Hyatt Electric Co. in West Asheville for about 40 years until Retirement. After retirement he was an avid volunteer at the Asheville VA Medical Center for 16 years. He was also a member of VFW Post 891. He enjoyed boating and fishing and was always ready to help anyone he could. He resided for 50 years in the home he built at 75 Covington Street in West Asheville. The past seven years he resided in Fort Lauderdale, FL. He was the only child of Fred L. & Lita Mae Clark Wilson. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Mary Magdalene (Jean) Wilson. Their daughter and son-in-law, Pat and Colvin Pinkerton of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; grandchildren, Mynette Fenner and husband David of Jacksonville, FL., Kevin Pinkerton and wife Shelley of Ft. Lauderdale, FL.; two great-grandsons, Ethan and Noah Fenner; two special cousins who are like a son and daughter Edward (Buddy) and Irma Rudisill of Candler, NC and other close cousins, Don and Carolyn Dayton, N.B. and Pat Clark and Glenda Wilson. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home with Chaplain Richard Rockwell from the Asheville VA Medical Center officiating. Burial will be in Pisgah View Memorial Park with military rites provided by the Buncombe County Veterans Council Memorial Team. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2:00 P.M. Tuesday at the funeral home.
