William "Bill" Sams

Leicester William Bill Sams, 80, of 86 Green Acres Drive, went home to be with the Lord Friday, June 6, 2014 at the Elizabeth House. Mr. Sams was born in Madison County on May 30, 1934. He was a resident of Buncombe County since 1945 and a son of the late Dale and Josie Ramsey Sams. He was also preceded in death by his three brothers: Ervin, Bob, and Wayne; three sisters: Ruth, Marie and Neta; and great-granddaughter, Abigail Dockery. He retired in 1990 from National Linen Company, where he had served for over 15 years and also served with the Merchant Marines from 1954-1959. Surviving are his wife, Dorothy Anders Sams of the home; daughter, Alice Marie Dockery (Joel); sons, David Sams and Joseph Sams all of Asheville; 7 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Tuesday, June 10, 2014 in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with Rev. Willard Pruitt officiating. Burial will follow at Elk Mountain Cemetery, Woodfin. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 pm Monday at the funeral home and at other times, the family will be at the residence. The family would like to thank all of the folks at the Elizabeth House for their love and care of our family during this time.
