Willard Stoneman Rice

Willard Rice Asheville - Willard Stoneman Rice, 92, of 20 Baldwin Street passed away Thursday, July 1, 2010 at the St. Joseph Campus of Mission Hospitals. A native of Madison County, he had resided most of life in Buncombe County. He was a Marine Drill Sergeant during WWII. Mr. Rice was a son of the late Charles Lankford Rice and Alice Molly Blazer Rice and was also preceded in death by his brother, William Rice. Surviving are his wife of 72 years, Alice Grace Harris Rice of the home; daughters, Linda Greer (Mark) of Richmond, VA and Elizabeth Knight (Mac) of Charlotte; two grandchildren; three great grandchildren, one great-great grandson and sister, Martha Reed of Asheville. Graveside services will be held 11 AM Monday at Green Hills Cemetery with Rev. Randy Melton officiating. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Buncombe County Veterans Memorial Team.
