Asheville - Wilkie Maggard, 71, passed away Sunday, February 26, 2012 at the Memorial Campus of Mission Hospitals. A native of Hollybush, KY, he had lived in Asheville most of his life. He was a Hamm Radio Operator, owned a TV Repair Shop and was a Chef for several area restaurants, including Bucks, The Tastee Diner and The Hot Shot Cafe. He was also an accomplished guitar player. Mr. Maggard was a son of the late Parker and Alice Hall Maggard. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Irene Maggard; brothers and sisters, Robert Maggard, Sammy Maggard, Rose Perry, Austin Jay Hall, Edsel Hall and Barcelona Davis. Surviving are his daughter, Margaret Allen (James); brothers and sisters, Loy Ellis Maggard (Pearl), Lee Maggard (Roma), Helen Ratliff (Berton), Ruth Evelyn Maggard, Moses Maggard (Linda), Ethlyn Brewer (Danny) and Charlie Maggard; grandchildren, Tonya Sorto (Eblin), Melissa Allen, Robert Allen and Miranda Allen; 8 great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held 6:00 P.M. Wednesday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with Rev. Berton Ratliff officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
