Asheville Weldon Franklin Penley, Sr., 87, of 17 Ace Drive, went to be with his Lord on Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at the John F. Keever, Jr. Solace Center. A lifelong resident of Buncombe County, Mr. Penley, along with his wife, retired in 1998 as owners and operators of the Penley Family Care for over 45 years. He was of the Baptist faith and was active in numerous civic organizations. He was a veteran having served in the US Army. Mr. Penley was a son of the late Floyd and Louise Jackson Penley and was also preceded in death by his son, Weldon Franklin Penley, Jr., sister, Floye Marlowe and brother, Granville Penley. Surviving are his wife of 67 years, Aeline Wilson Penley; daughter, Portia Gough (Max) of Black Mountain; daughter-in-law, Jeanette Teague Penley of Asheville; grandchildren, Jennifer Wilson (Mark), Christy Hill (Darren), Andrew Franklin Penley, Julia Ledesma (Santiago) and Charles Gough; six great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 PM Sunday, December 31, 2017 in the chapel of the Anders-Rice Funeral Home with Rev. Jonathan Stewart officiating. Burial will follow in Gashes Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2:30 prior to services at the funeral home.
