Candler - Wayne Dale Van Eyk, 76, passed away unexpectedly in his sleep Wednesday, August 30, 2017 at his home. A native of the Holland, MI area, Mr. Van Eyk had resided in Buncombe County since 1981. He retired in 2014 after working over 50 years as a Registered Nurse, specializing in cardiac care. He also served as the Director of Nursing of several nursing homes and hospitals. He was a member of Foster Seventh-day Adventist Church, where he played an active role in community services ministries. Mr. Van Eyk was a US Army veteran, being discharged with the rank of First Lieutenant during the Vietnam era. He was an avid coin collector, rock hound, and bird watcher, and was very active in his support of Rez Refuge Ministries, a youth and community center on the Navajo reservation in Ft. Defiance, AZ. He was passionate about his family, especially his grandchildren, and genuinely enjoyed people. Mr. Van Eyk was the son of the late Raymond John and Rena Irene Jones Van Eyk. He was also preceded in death by two brothers: Robert Keith Van Eyk and Raymond John Van Eyk, Jr.; and a sister, Patricia Gail Van Eyk. Surviving are his wife, Judy Freese Van Eyk; children: LeeAnn Van Eyk-Smith and husband Steven, John Mark Van Eyk and wife Kellie, and AnnJanette Van Eyk-Moreno and husband David; grandchildren: Anna-Kierstin Smith, Brooke Van Eyk, Josie Van Eyk, Brycen Van Eyk, Chayce Moreno and Noah Moreno; brother, Mark Allen Van Eyk; sister, Shirley Ann Walters; and several nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, September 3, 2017 at Foster Seventh-day Adventist Church.
