Wayne Messer

November 12, 1932 — June 24, 2017

Alexander Wayne Martin Messer, 84, passed away Saturday, June 24, 2017 at his home surrounded by his family. A native of Haywood County, Mr. Messer had resided in Buncombe County for most of his life. He retired from the maintenance department of Norfolk Southern Railway, and was a member of Victory Baptist Church. Mr. Messer was a kind man, who loved fishing and helping his neighbors, and was a faithful donator to such charities as St. Judes Childrens Hospital and the Wounded Warrior Project. Mr. Messer was the son of the late Seymore and Nettie Messer, and was also preceded in death by his sisters: Thelma Thompson and Bobbie Sink. Surviving are his wife of 63 years, Frankie Pauline Herron Messer; daughter, Brenda McClure Wood and husband Steve; son, Mark Messer; grandchildren: Zackery Johnson and wife Lynn, Dallas Messer and Bradie Messer; great-grandchildren: Sean Johnson, Austin Johnson, Isaac Johnson, and Camden Messer; sister, Gladys Drake; and several nieces and nephews, including special nephew Dallas Wayne Thompson and wife Brenda, and their children, Dale and Jeff Thompson. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday at Victory Baptist Church, with the Rev. Mark Chase and Rev. Ricky Wolfe officiating. Burial will follow in Newfound Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:30 8:30 PM Wednesday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home.
