Asheville - Archie Wayne King, 84, of 163 Old County Home Road, died unexpectedly Sunday September 2, 2007 at his residence. A native of Yancey County, he had lived most of his life in Buncombe County. He was a U.S. Army Air Corp veteran of WWII and was a POW. He was a member of West Asheville Church of God at 60 State Street for over 50 years and served as the Sunday School Treasurer for 25 years. He retired from American Enka Corporation after 40 years of Service. He was a son of the late Zebulon Vance and Cora Robinson King. Surviving are his wife, Beulah King of the home; daughters, Jill King Brewer and husband Don of Swannanoa and Kim King Bancroft and husband John of Asheville; sister, Avis Coco of Greensboro; brother, Chester King of Asheville; 6 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 P.M. Thursday at West Asheville Church of God at 60 State Street with the Revs. Roger Lunsford and Benjamin Black officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9:00 P.M. Wednesday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home.
