Walter Johnson

Asheville - Walter Audrey Johnson, 84 passed away peacefully Monday, June 20, 2022 at his cherished place on the French Broad: River Escape. A lifelong resident of Buncombe County, Mr. Johnson was the owner/operator of Walter’s Improvement Service since 1975.Since retiring he would jump on his John Deer Gator and travel the neighborhood chatting with all his friends. Then head to the river to feed the ducks and fish at the ponds. He always wanted a place on the river to develop as his heaven on earth. He loved planning and hosting family and community dinners and events. Walter enjoyed seeing everyone swimming in the pond and fishing in the river. Family memories will continue at the River Escape to reflect his legacy. Mr. Johnson was the son of the late John Will and Julia Mae Rhymer Johnson. He was also preceded in death by two nephews: “Little Philip” Scorsone” and Tim Fox; a niece Debra Renee Fox. Surviving are his former wife, Glenda Johnson of Asheville: children: Audrey Webb and husband Keith and Andy Johnson and wife Susan all of Asheville; grandchildren: Kristen Wells ( Jarrod) of Leicester, Hannah Franklin ( Jason) of Alexander, Byron Webb ( Devynne) of Raleigh, and Courtney Green ( Andy) of Asheville; Great Grandchildren : Adlee and Rylan Wells, Harper Franklin, Brooks Webb, and Josie Green; sisters: Juanita Fox of Enka, and Linda Scorsone and husband Joe of Asheville; nephews: Greg Fox ( Robin) and Chris Scorsone (Paige); niece Terri Lynn Fox; special friends Eddie and Janice Crowder of Asheville. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, June 28, 2022 in the Chapel of Anders Rice Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 – 10:45 AM on Tuesday at the funeral home, with a viewing for those that wish from 9:00 – 10:00 AM Tuesday.
