Virginia W. Smith

Asheville Virginia Woodson Sheppard Smith, 83, of 34 Florida Place, died Sunday, June 1, 2008 at Fleshers Fairview Health Care Center. A native and life long resident of Buncombe County. Mrs. Smith was a homemaker and was a member of French Broad Methodist Church, the Ladies Auxiliary of V.F.W. Post #891, the American Legion Auxiliary, the Eastern Star and was a long time volunteer with Asheville V.A. Medical Center. She was the daughter of the late Jeter Pritchard Sheppard and Thelma Imojean Woodson Sheppard and was also preceded in death by her brother, Harold Sheppard. Surviving are her son, Bruce Alan Smith and wife, Betty of Asheville; daughter, Frankie Jeannette Redden and husband, Eric of Hendersonville; grandchildren, Randy, Alan and Adam Smith; great-grandchildren, Chelsea, Dylan and Abagale Smith. Memorial services will be held 2 P.M. Saturday, June 7, 2008 at Anders-Rice Funeral Home with the Rev. Clark Sorrells officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the services at the funeral home.
