Vernon Troy King

April 7, 1925 — September 7, 2006

Candler - Vernon Troy King, 81, of 434 Reeves Cove Road, died Thursday September 7, 2006 at Pisgah Manor after an extended illness. A native and lifelong resident of Buncombe County, he retired from Sears after 37 years of service as a service technician and was a member of the Family of Faith Fellowship. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII receiving the Purple Heart. He was a son of the late Troy Thomas and Mabel McMahan King and the husband of the late Dorothy Stamey King. He was also preceded in death by brothers, Virgil and Sherrill King and sister, Vista Metcalf. Surviving are his sons, Rev. James Vernon King of Candler and Charles Michael King of Dallas; daughters, Shirley K. Bennett of Candler and Sharon K. Caison of Arden; brothers, Weldon, Everett, Vinson and Avery King; sisters, Georgia Bryson, Sue Norris, Muriel Nutter and Ruth Owenby; grandchildren, James, Michael, Selina, Jeramie, Jason, Derek, Dwayne and David; and 12 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 3:30 P.M. Sunday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home with his son Rev. James Vernon King officiating. Burial will be in Pisgah View Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 3:30 Sunday at the funeral home.
