Vernon Reese

Asheville - Vernon James Reese, 86, of Bingham Road, passed away Saturday, July 2, 2011. A lifelong resident of Buncombe County, Mr. Reese worked many years as a truck driver and mechanic, and was a US Army veteran of World War II. He was the son of the late Calvin and Della Lanning Reese. He was also preceded in death by a son, William Reese. Surviving are his wife, Gertie Reese; daughters: Valerie Passmore, Kay Reese, Misty Fox (Ricky), and Heather Reese (Guga); son, Thomas Reese; daughter-in-law, Linda Reese; 11 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be held at 2 PM Thursday in the chapel of the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery, with the Rev. Eugene Dodd officiating. The family will receive friends following the services at the home of Misty and Ricky Fox. Memorial donations may be made to the family to assist with final expenses. Anders-Rice Funeral Home is assisting the Reese family.
