Vergie Sams

Leicester Vergie Lodusky Sams, 92, of Leicester, went home to be with the Lord Sunday, November 20, 2016 surrounded by her family. She was a hard working, faithful prayer warrior, loving mother, and grandmother. Mrs. Sams was the daughter of the late Cordelia Sharpe. She was also preceded in death by her loving husband of 69 years, Riley R. Sams, two sons, three brothers, and one sister. She retired after 23 years of service from the Buncombe County School System, and was a member of Georgetown Baptist Church for many years. Mrs. Sams is survived by her sons: Charles Sams and wife Caroleen, and David Sams and wife Debbie; daughter, Audrey Turbyfill and husband Kirt, all of Leicester; sister, Wilma Franklin; brothers: Donald and Robert King; grandchildren: Anthony Turbyfill (Kelly), Sheletha Smith, Tonja Hall (Jeff), Chad Turbyfill (Miranda), and Chance Sams (Crystal); and nine great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, November 23 at Georgetown Baptist Church, with the Rev. Chad Ellege and Rev. Jacob Ellege officiating. Interment will follow in Beulah Baptist Church Cemetery, with her grandsons and friends serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 6:00 8:00 PM Tuesday at Georgetown Baptist Church and at other times at the home of Mrs. Sams. Anders-Rice Funeral Home is assisting the Sams family.
