Velma Mcbrayer

Fairview Velma Gibson McBrayer, 85, of Fairview, passed away Friday, February 12, 2016 at the John F. Keever Solace Center. Velma was the daughter of the late Lee Roy and Dollie Wright Gibson, and the wife of the late Eurschel McBrayer, who died in 1998. She was also preceded in death by a son, Lawrence M. Larry McBrayer. Velma was employed for more than 40 years in the office of C.P. Clare and Company. She attended Blantons Business College and was a past member of Asheville Womens Business Club where she was selected Woman of the Year in 1998. She attended Fairview Baptist Church. Velma is survived by a daughter, Susan Higdon (Terry); son, Jeffrey McBrayer; four grandchildren: Brandon, who made his home with her since the age of 5, Kelly McClendon, Karly and Kendall Higdon; four great-grandchildren; sister, Pauline Henry; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be held at 3 PM Sunday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home, with the Rev. Todd Royal officiating. Burial will follow at a later date in Calvary Churchyard in Fletcher.
