Velma Laughter

October 21, 1925 — December 4, 2004

Asheville - Velma Pettit Laughter, 79, of 129 Reynolds School Road, passed away Saturday, December 4, 2004 at Memorial Mission Hospital after an extended illness. A native and lifelong resident of Buncombe County, she retired from the Reynolds High School Cafeteria after 25 years of service. She was also a member of Brush Creek Baptist Church. Mrs. Laughter was the daughter of the late Elmer Marion and Myrtle Margaret Harding Pettit. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Charles Jay Pettit. She is survived by her husband, Claude Jack Laughter of the home; her son, Mark Laughter and wife Kim of Asheville; her grandchildren, Kristy Laughter and Amy Laughter; her sister, Ruth Reed of Clemmons; and her brother, Rev. E.M. Pettit, Jr. of Fairview. Funeral services will be held at 6 PM Monday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home, with the Revs. E.M. Pettit, Jr. and Tony Fowler officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the funeral service. Graveside services will be held at 2 PM Tuesday in the Gashes Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
