Asheville Troy Samuel Collins, 79, of 26 Jarrett Street, beloved husband, father, papaw and friend passed away Tuesday, December 4, 2007. A lifelong resident of Buncombe County. He was a son of the late Edith Jane Morris and also preceded in death by his brothers, Andrew, Clyde, Richard, Cecil and Henry. Mr. Collins retired in 1992 as a truck driver and volunteer for the Salvation Army following over 28 years of service. After his retirement he was a security officer for 5 years and was a member of the Fruit of Labor Worship Center. Surviving are his wife, Bonnie Meadows Collins of the home; daughters, Peggy Lynn and husband, Gary of Fairview, Debra Johnston and husband, Tommy and Clara Collins all of Asheville; 7 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and 1 great great granddaughter. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home with the Rev. Willie Warren officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following services at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Elida Home for Children, 2 Comton Drive, Asheville, N.C. 28806. A quiet, gentle soul, Troy will be missed by many. Even while battling a long illness, his faith never wavered, always offering a smile to those around him. While the pain is great, there is a peace in knowing you are finally singing with the angels and watching over all of us. We love you.
