Asheville - Thomas Leroy Tommy Haworth, 72, passed away Thursday, July 5, 2018 at the Memorial Campus of Mission Hospitals. A native of Abingdon, VA, Mr. Haworth had resided in Buncombe County since 1973. He retired from Roadway Freight Company as a truck driver. Mr. Haworth was very active in his community, having served for 20 years as a volunteer fireman with Reynolds Fire Department and as a softball coach for 10 years. He was an avid NASCAR fan, but his greatest enjoyment was whatever activity his grandchildren were involved in. Mr. Haworth was the son of the late Cecil King Haworth, II and Elsie Mae Fenner Haworth. He was also preceded in death by his sisters: Louise Haworth and Linda Marie Cross; and brothers: Robert Wimp Haworth and Hubert Haworth. Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Linda Hill Haworth; children: David Lincoln Wise and wife Wendy of Cornelius, NC, Teresa Renee Haworth of Asheville and Hope Haworth Dotson and husband Larry Dotson, Jr. of Fairview; grandchildren: Brittney Letterman and husband Joseph of Burnsville, Amanda Dotson and Allie Dotson, both of Fairview; sisters: Patsy Haworth of Abingdon, VA, Judy Stubbs of Myrtle Beach, SC, and Mary Rawson of Pikesville, NC; brothers: Larry Haworth and wife Peggy, Bill Haworth and wife Nancy, and Cecil Bud Haworth, III and wife Barbara, all of Abingdon, VA, and Donald Don Haworth and wife Mary of Kingsport, TN; and several nieces and nephews. At this time, no services are planned. His ashes will be scattered on his familys farm in Virginia at a later date. Anders-Rice Funeral Home is assisting Mr. Haworths family.
