Asheville Thomas Edgar Tom Williams, Jr., 90, of 159 Keystone Drive, passed away Wednesday, February 10, 2010 at the John F. Keever, Jr. Solace Center. A native of Buncombe County, Mr. Williams retired from the FAA in 1974 as an Air Traffic Controller. He served in the US Army Air Corps from 1943-1946 during World War II as a pilot on C-47s, pulling gliders and hauling paratroopers. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church. Mr. Williams was the son of the late Thomas Edgar Williams, Sr. and Sally Jolly Williams, and was the husband of the late Mary Belle Griffin Williams. He was also preceded in death by two sisters: Della Moore and Rachel Rambo. Surviving are several nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be held at 3PM Sunday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home, with the Rev. Charles Phillips, Rev. Mark Lewis and Rev. Harold Savell officiating. Burial will follow in Newfound Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2-3 PM Sunday at the funeral home.
