Susie courageously fought a 2 year battle with cancer and passed away Saturday, July 11 at the age of 62. She is survived by her husband of 30 years, W.A. Buddy Londenberg, her sisters, Sandra Foster Justus (Loran) of Asheville and Sharon Foster Watts of Spartanburg, SC. She was a much loved aunt and survived by her nieces and nephew, Kelly Justus Frady of Asheville, Kayce Justus Ford of Fort Mill, SC and Ryan Foster Justus of Asheville and their children, 4 great nieces and 3 great nephews. She is survived by Buddys children, whom she loved as if they were her own, Victoria Suzette Susie Winterling (Mike) of Weaverville, W.A. Buddy Londenberg III (Shelby) of Weaverville, and Belinda Carol Webb of Fairview, NC. She is also survived by 3 grandchildren whom she spoiled, loved, and nurtured, Joshua Roberts, Alex Londenberg (Erin), Rachel Winterling, and Paige Webb as well as 3 great grandchildren. Susie loved children and was an adored aunt, great aunt, and Granny. Susie faced her disease with a positive attitude, a wonderful sense of humor and wit. Throughout her illness, her friends and family often remarked, You dont look or act sick, to which she replied, What does sick look like? About a month before Susies death, she was still strong enough to fulfill her bucket list wish and lifelong dream of an Alaskan cruise and land trip, leaving lasting memories with her husband and family. Susie retired from Wachovia after a long career in banking. She started as a teller and continued over the years as trainer for all tellers and most recently before retirement as Human Resource Officer. After retirement, she missed working and found employment with Kimmel and Associates in Asheville as administrative assistant. A special thanks to the owners of Kimmel and all associates as they were so kind to her both during her employment and her illness. Even after she was no longer able to work, they continued their friendship and continued to treat her as a valued employee. Susie was an active member of Groce United Methodist Church and her beloved sisters in Sarah Circle. They supported Susie, Buddy, and her sister Sandra with prayers, phone calls, visits, meals, gifts, and love throughout her battle with cancer. Susie was especially committed to her churchs involvement in Samaritan Purses Operation Christmas Child. She enjoyed putting together shoe boxes of Christmas gifts for children all over the world and was always looking and collecting items throughout the year for the boxes. Last year she filled 88 boxes on her own. Together with her sister, Sandra, they adopted and maintained a large perennial garden on the church grounds. Susies own home gardens were a testimonial to her love of nature and flowers. When visiting, you would most likely find her in her garden surrounded by the birds and animals that she nurtured. She created gardens of beauty and grace, as this was the way she expressed herself. She was creative and her masterpieces were full of intricate details; the gifts she wrapped were too beautiful to open and her garden beds made you think you were in a dream. Her ability to share Gods beauty brightened the lives of many both at home and at church. Memorial services for Susie will be held at 2 PM, Wednesday, July 15 in the sanctuary at Groce United Methodist Church- 954 Tunnel Road. The family will receive friends an hour prior at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Care Partners Hospice, PO Box 25338, Asheville, NC 28813 in Susies name.
