Steve Alden

May 10, 1944 — March 13, 2017

Asheville John Stephen Steve Alden, 72, went to be with the Lord on Monday, March 13, 2017 at his home. A native of St. Louis County, MO, he had resided in Asheville since 2004. He retired as a Computer Technician with the Federal Reserve and was a US Air Force Veteran during the Vietnam era. He was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Asheville where he was also a member of the Rehoboth Bible Study Class and helped with numerous mission projects. Steve loved nature and the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains. He hiked many trails with his Scotties. Mr. Alden was a son of the late John Thompson Alden and Elizabeth Alma Jehle Alden. Surviving are his wife whom he married December 28, 2012, Judy Brown Griffin-Alden of the home; daughter, Carrie Alden Wilson (Nathan) of Owensboro, KY; son, Jonathan Alden of St. Louis, MO; mother of his children, Donna Alden of St. Louis, MO; grandchildren, Liam Wilson and Elisabeth Alden; sister, Lynn Alden of Embudo, New Mexico and brother, Tony Alden (Kathy) of St. Charles, MO; other survivors include his step daughters, Sara Schlafer and Elaine Stokes (Dwight); three step grandchildren; one step great granddaughter; sister-in-law, Theresa Leatherwood (Mike); brothers-in-law, Pat Brown, Dr. Michael D. Brown (Virgie) and Myrl Brown (Linda). A memorial service will be held at the Crouch Chapel of First Baptist Church of Asheville at 11 AM Saturday, March 25, 2017. A reception at the church fellowship hall will be held immediately following services.
