Smsgt. Frederick Williams

Asheville SMSgt. Frederick Gene Williams, 89, passed away Monday, October 1, 2018 at the Brooks-Howell Home. A native of Versailles, MO, Mr. Williams had resided in Buncombe County since 1979. He retired from the U.S. Air Force with the rank of Senior Master Sergeant following 26 years of service, and had worked for Burlington Industries and Beacon Manufacturing before retiring completely in 2003. He was an avid Atlanta Braves fan and enjoyed watching college basketball. He will be remembered as a great husband, father, and grandfather who had a driving work ethic and a strong desire to take care of his family. Mr. Williams was the son of the late Roy Vincil and Carrie Sherman Williams. He was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Lauren Theresa Williams, and by seven siblings. Surviving are his wife, Mary Elizabeth Robinson Williams; children: Michael Williams and wife Susan, Jeffrey Williams and wife Pattie, and Kimberly Williams Baker and husband Roger; grandchildren: Douglas Adam Williams, Jill Labrecque Williams, Leah Nicole Raines, and Brooke Lynnette Williams; siblings: Gerald, Jeanette, Judy, Nancy, and Andy; and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, October 9, 2018 at 12:00 NOON in the chapel of the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery, with full military funeral honors presented by the U.S. Air Force. Anders-Rice Funeral Home is assisting Mr. Williams family.
