Leicester - Shirley Ann Reeves Worley, 77 years old, passed away on 3/10/2016. Shirley was born on 9/4/1938, and was a lifelong resident of Buncombe County. She was the widow of Roy Worley who preceded her in death. Her late husband served in the U.S. Army and achieved the rank of Sergeant First Class. He was a Vietnam Veteran under the 173rd Division, awarded the Bronze Star and received a Purple Heart. She is survived by her three children, Roy Dean Worley and girlfriend Lianne Fiore, Stephen Michael Worley and wife Dedra, and Donna Angela Worley-Nunez and husband Joel, grandchildren Jacob Dean Worley, Ashley Kursten Nunez, Joel Brandon Nunez, Daisy Lane Nunez, Emily Ann Nunez, Jessica Andino, Tiana Phillips, Tyra Phillips, great grandchildren Luna Rose and Soleil Nicole Andino, siblings are Earl Reeves, Sheila Reeves, and Joe Reeves, and several nieces and nephews. Her grandchild, James Daniel Worley preceded her in death, as well as her mother Clem Reeves, father James A. Reeves, Sisters Sue Rowland, and Janet McCoy. Shirley was escorted to Heaven by her dear Aunt Annie Mae Grooms Reeves who preceded her in death 5 days earlier. Shirley faced many challenges in her life, and overcame each one. After the death of her husband in 1971, she raised her three children, with help from her mother and father, siblings, and the family of her late husband. Her strength and courage defined her and helped her to achieve many goals. Shirley graduated and received a BA degree in Psychology at UNC-Asheville, and worked as a Social Worker in the Blue Ridge Mental Health Center for many years, where she was the favorite, and beloved by her many clients. She enjoyed genealogy. She researched family lineage and made many discoveries while doing so. Her love of mountain music was something that was in her blood growing up with her sisters and brothers, whom would often times sing together in harmony during family gatherings. Shirley organized many family reunions and cherished those special moments. She sang and played multiple musical instruments and was artistically creative. She loved antiques, and appreciated the history of the mountains. She loved to cook and enjoyed entertaining. Her family and grandchildren were by far her most beloved joy in life. The family will receive friends on Friday, 3/18/16 at Anders Rice Funeral Home from 5pm to 8pm.
