Shirley Modena Banks Brown

Shirley Modena Banks Brown, 75, went home to be with Jesus on Friday, March 3, 2017, at the St. Joseph Campus of Mission Hospitals. A native and life long resident of Buncombe County, she was a daughter of the late Lindell Reagan Banks and Gladys Davis Banks. She was also preceded in death by her brothers: Glenn Eugene Banks and Lester Norman Banks. Mrs. Brown was well known for her Shirley Pies during her time with the Dinner Bell restaurant, and later retired from Asheville Plastics (Nypro). She and her husband have been members of Ridgeway Baptist Church since 1970 where she served in many roles including Sunday school teacher. She enjoyed working puzzles, listening to music, watching the NY Yankees and NASCAR, and loved animals, babies, and spending time with her family. She was a determined and hardworking person, and had a sweet tooth, especially, for chocolate covered cherries. Surviving are her best friend and husband of 59 years, James Franklin Brown; daughter, Jo Ann Brown Allison; grandson, Nathan Rex Allison; sisters: Patricia Ann Heaton, and Doris I. Crisp; brother, Ronnie Kenneth Banks; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM on Monday, March 6, 2017, at Ridgeway Baptist Church with Pastor Jack W. Collins officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12 to 2 PM Monday at the church.
