Sarah Christine "Christy" Sloan

Asheville - Sarah Christine Christy Sloan, 35, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Jim Sloan, died peacefully Sunday, September 19, 2004. She had gracefully met the challenge of ALS (Lou Gerhigs Disease) for 5 years. Born in Asheville, NC, she attended Asheville Christian Academy and Ben Lippen School before graduating from Davidson College in 1990. Christy enjoyed an eleven year career with First Union Bank in Asheville and Charlotte. Among the joys of her very full life were being Aunt Christy to her eight nieces and nephews, having a wide circle of friends, enjoying various sports and outdoor activities, and her loving family. Foremost was her deep and abiding faith. She is survived by her parents; her brothers, Jay Sloan, wife Rhonda and daughter Sarah of Charlotte, NC; Joseph Sloan, wife Heather, son Adam, daughter Cate of Troutman, NC; Alex Sloan, wife Mary, daughter Mary Beth, son Joshua of Asheville; Steve Sloan, wife Jeryl, son Noah, daughter Grace, son Luke of Asheville; one uncle, Sam Sloan, wife Suzanne of Charlotte, NC; cousins Barrett Ranson of Charlotte, NC, Ross Sloan of Flat Rock, NC and Scott Parkerson of Raleigh, NC. A memorial service and celebration of the life of Christy Sloan will be held at 10:30 AM Wednesday, September 22 at Central United Methodist Church in Asheville, NC. The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall immediately following the service. A 4:00 PM family graveside service will be held in Gastonia, NC. Anders-Rice Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Memorials may be made to the foundation founded by Christy to help find a cure for ALS; ALS Race for Research, P.O.
