Sammie Lou Hensley

September 11, 1916 — May 4, 2005

Candler - Sammie Lou Hensley , 88, went to be with her Lord, Wednesday May 4, 2005 at Pisgah Manor Health Care Center following a period of declining health. A native of Madison County. She had resided in Buncombe County since 1944. Miss Hensley retired in 1979 from Olin Paper Co. with 36 years of service and was a member of Deaverview Baptist Church. She was a daughter of the late Frank James and Orla Mae Davis Hensley and was also preceded in death by her sisters, Alda Cole and Clara Branton; brother, Willard Hensley and brothers-in-law, Garrison Grooms and Bill Morgan. Surviving are her sisters, Rose Morgan of Candler and Marjorie Grooms of Asheville; sister-in-law, Lena Hensley of Mars Hill; brother-in-law, George Branton of Asheville; 8 nieces and nephews including Edith M. Shaft with whom she made her home; 16 great nieces and nephews and several great great nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with the Rev. Vince Keith and Rev. Charlie Sams officiating. Burial will be in Pisgah View Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2:00 P.M. Saturday at the funeral home and at other times at the home of Gary and Edith Shaft.
