Sam Roberts

Gary Sam Roberts, 63, of Asheville, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, February 25, 2016 at his home following complications from heart disease. A native and resident of Buncombe County for most of his life, Mr. Roberts was a successful businessman, owning and operating Roberts Appraisals, Inc. as well as several clothing retailers in the past. He enjoyed hiking and biking, and was an avid tennis player. He and his brother Mike won several amateur tennis awards over the years. Mr. Roberts was the son of the late Carl and Bessie Freeman Roberts. He was also preceded in death by three siblings: Tony Roberts, Ruby Massey, and Bill Roberts. Surviving is his wife of 22 years, Brooke Sutton Roberts and their daughter, Isabella Roberts of Asheville. He is also survived by a daughter, Lia Roberts of Santa Barbara, CA; sister, Henrietta Phillips (Wendell); brother, Mike Roberts (Kim); and several nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held at 12:00 PM Saturday, March 5, 2016 in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home, with the Rev. Brian Cagle officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00 11:50 AM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Mission Hospitals Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, 509 Biltmore Avenue, Asheville, NC 28801.
