Fairview Carolyn Ruth Mayo Brown, 88, of 201 Creek Circle Rd, went to be with her Lord Saturday, August 2, 2014 at the WNC Baptist Home. She was a native of Buncombe County and resident most of her life. She was a graduate of Woodfin High School, the Mission School of Nursing, and was of the Presbyterian Faith. Mrs. Brown was a retired registered nurse having locally served in public health for 20 years and was former charge nurse with the Black Mountain Center. Along with her husband they had resided in North Pole, Alaska for 21 years where she had served at the Carriage North Nursing Home and Bassett Army Hospital in Fairbanks. Mrs. Brown was a daughter of the late Edward Ed Mayo and Thelma Barrett Mayo and was also preceded in death by her daughter, Carolyn Bolick. Surviving are her husband whom she married February 1, 1974 at Ft. Walton Beach, FL, James William Brown of the home; daughter, Lisa Murrill ; grandsons: Derrick Murrill and wife Maura, Jeremy Murrill, Gary Bolick and wife Ingrid and Chris Bolick; sister, Edith May all of Asheville; and several great-grandchildren. Burial will be in the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery at a later date. Anders-Rice Funeral Home is assisting the family.
