Arden - Ruth Alvenia Laing Mills, 86, of 3864 Sweeten Creek Road went to be with her Lord, Tuesday August 17, 2004, at The Oaks at Sweeten Creek following a period of declining health. A native of Largo, FL. She had resided in Asheville most of her life and was a member of First Baptist Church where she was a member of the Truth Seekers Sunday School Class. Mrs. Mills retired in 1985 from C&H Auto Parts as a bookkeeper. She was a daughter of the late Chief Arthur Stone and Maggie Holliman Stone and the wife of Woodrow William Mills who died in 1985. She was also preceded in death by brother, Harold Laing and sisters, Thalia Sue Whitaker and Mary Lillian Wilson. Surviving are her daughters, Linda M. Russell and husband Bobby of Fletcher, Barbara M. Sircey and husband Leonard of Weaverville and Margaret M. Black of Canton; stepsons, William Francis Mills and wife Mary of Asheville and Barry Eugene Mills and wife Dorothy of Burlington; brother, Floyd Stone of Knoxville, TN; grandchildren, Scott Sircey, William Hunnicutt, Travis Black, Jennifer Sircey and Justin Black; 5 step grandchildren, Dale Mills, Buddy Mills, Butch Mills, Sonya Helton and Stephanie Johnson; great granddaughter, Annabelle Macy Hunnicutt; lifelong friend, Alice L. Grubb of Asheville and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. Buddy Corbin officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2:00 P.M. Sunday at the funeral home.
